Jewelry Care

With proper care, our pieces can last for generations to come. Here are some tips to help you make your pieces last.

General care

Our pieces can last for generations with proper care. However, like all handmade jewelry, they can be damaged if not handled with care. Keep away from young children and pets who could be rough with them. Also, keep jewelry away from lotions, oils, perfumes, cleaning products, and cosmetics as these can damage the metal or the stone. You can wash jewelry is warm, soapy water to remove residue and dust that may collect over time.

How to care for copper and sterling silver

Both copper and sterling silver will tarnish (oxidize) over time with exposure to air and chemicals in the environment. We oxidize all of our copper pieces and shine them to for an antique copper look. However, they will continue to darken over time. To slow down this process, store jewelry in an air-tight bag and polish often with a polishing cloth. Both a plastic baggie and a small polishing cloth will be included in your order.

If you own a lot of jewelry, you may want to purchase a larger polishing cloth. This Sunshine polishing cloth is one of the best. You can purchase on on Amazon here.

How to care for gemstones

In general, keep gemstones away from harsh chemicals and extreme temperatures as these could crack to stone or alter the color. Certain stones like opals and pearls are soft and can be more easily scratched, so handle with extra care. If you wash these stones under water, be sure to dry them off quickly.
